good exercises for a six pack?

i want some strong abdominals by about september . its not for any event or anything but i would like a better stomach. im almost 18 & weigh 110lbs so im not dealing with pudge. i have a good gym membership & i go about 3 times a week. i go on the treadmill for about 10 minutes, stretch for about 5, machines for arms, thighs, one for abs and one for lower back/spinal area, and then go on the elliptical or treadmill again for 20-30 minutes. i have a weird problem with my abs in that i cant do more than about 20 good crunches because i get a strange muscle spasm that my doctor cant figure out (i think its from doing a lot of incorrect crunches about 5 years ago) so im somewhat limited in my ab exercises. would running help? what types of machines should i use? i know iron mans/planks (push up position balancing on forearms and toes and hold) feel like they work pretty well but what else?

Sit ups, in my opinion, are a waste of time. You will not create a nice sleek abdominal area doing sit ups. You will however create a bulkier muscle, which may make your tummy look a little bigger! Sit ups are rather like doing bicep curls for the tummy muscles!

You can’t spot reduce fat from your body with exercise, but you can lose fat from your body.

Your body will take its energy from where ever it chooses, and, it usually isn’t from the areas you want reducing!

Try power walking every day, and, if you are able to get to a Pilates matwork class, this will lengthen, strengthen & tone your body – in particular your mid-section.

If you are self-conscious about your tummy, look at your body and decide what you like best, then make the most of your favourite area.

Six pack question?

Ive been doing abdominals exercises for months now, not really expecting anything because I have some loose skin as a result from weight loss. but i spoke to my mom today and told her how it kills my self esteem and it seems like I’ll be able to have the surgery to remove it. so i was wondering once they remove the loose skin like will my abs be visible or do they remove the muscle as well and u have to start over?

If the muscle is there, then it will be visible. They won’t remove your muscle when they take your extra skin.

Despite a lot of training, I’ve always had a bit of a gut there and never been able to see any six-pack. It looks as if my little son takes after me in this. How common is this, and in such cases are there any exercises that wil bring out the abdominals?

You need to lower your body fat by rigorous cardiovascular exercise. Also, some people’s abs are naturally more visible which means that you may have to work a lot harder than the average person.

Crunches have little to no effect, it is like trying to train your chest by doing a bench press and just lifting the bar. To get nice ripped abs you need to do abdominal exercises that involve resistance (weight).

Though your main prority at this point should be to lose the fat you have.

And as for your question most men store fat in the midsection as a pose to woman who store more on there bum and thighs, which is all natural. As you get older you will notice this, and you can tell by looking at the majority of older people to see this theory is correct.

If I did 4 sets of 25 crunches, 6 sets of 25 push ups and 2 sets of 25 leg lifts on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday
and then run on for 30 minutes on a Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
and then rest on Saturday.
how long will i be seeing results in my abdominals and pectorals?

Im 16 in a week.
and im fairly skinny.
i weigh roughly 60kg.

I have four-pack abdominals?

I’m 14, 5’4″ 120 lbs (pretty skinny) and have four pack abs only when I flex. I got them over the summer from a bunch of running, soccer, situps, etc. (but i also ate a ton at the time…?) It’s been nearly a year and i have not managed to get the six (or 8) pack yet. I really would like it in less than two weeks (for a beach trip), but i don’t know how to get my abs to show without flexing, nor get the bottom two abs to show at all. Any tips to get either (or both) of these (no need to flex or the 6/8 pack) fast? I have been doing running, reverse situps, bikes, planks, etc. and i feel the ‘burn’, but they just will not define themselves…. Also, i have these uncontrollable bouts of hunger where i stuff myself, which is not good, but it accumulates after a lot of exercise for me. I know this is a lot of stuff, but i need help, and quick!!! thanks in advance

Yeah, I agree, that should help.

You should also try sky rockets. Basically, lay on your back, use your hands for balance, keep your legs straight, and bring your legs up so you are making a ninety-degree angle at your waist. With your feet all the way up in the air, try to lift them six inches (lift your lower back slightly off the ground) without moving the rest of your body.

Also, work on your legs. If you increase the muscle mass in your legs, it will help show your lower abdominals and it will give you more energy. Leg workouts increase testosterone.

Definitely keep off the soda. Anything with a lot of fat or sugar. Eat a lit of chicken and tuna fish. And of course, do crumches and other ab exercises like mad.

You need to cut out all of the junk food you eat, drink plenty of water. If you keep up with your workouts, try drinking protein shakes to help build muscle. Note that if you drink large amounts of protein and don’t workout, then it turns into fat.

Find a workout routine that works, I found a video on Youtube called 8 minute abs, its an older video but it works your whole abdomen and after a few days I started seeing abs.

The perfect way to do that is through cardio circuit training and eating about 6 meals a day. Your total calorie intake for the whole day will be 1800 and you divide that by 6. So 300 calorie meals every 3 hours should do. You won’t get fat doing this, trust me. What you will be doing is building up your metabolism so your burn more fat and not store fat by going into starvation mode which is caused by not eating enough.It wouldn’t matter if you did 3000 crunches a day if you have fat covering your abs- you won’t ever see em! When you do cardio, do things like running, biking, swimming, pretty much anything that gets your heart rate going. You should try to keep your heart rate up for about 30 minutes or so though that number could vary depending on how intense the workout is.
The other important factor in fat loss is proper diet. Try to avoid things such as soda, chips, candies, stuff like that. You don’t necessarily have to cut that stuff out completely, especially if you are just starting, it can be hard. But the more junk food you cut out, the better your results. Just make sure you dont stop eating or anything, replace the junk with healthier alternatives.

As for exercise, do this. I have posted two workouts, pick which one you can do best first and move to the second one after 4 weeks:

A) Well doing endless amounts of crunches isn’t going to get a flat stomach. You just need to contract your ab muscles enough that they get worked out and burn the fat around it. To get your mid-section toned up and get a flat stomach, you can do various crunches involving cardio. In addition to traditional crunches you can do “Jackknife crunches” ( lay flat on the floor, arms extended out behind the top of your head with your palms facing the sky. Then keeping your joints locked and knees straight, lift your legs up and your body and arms at the same time to make a “V”. Then back down and repeat)-google this exercise or any others for pictures or videos if you needed. You can also do “side crunches” by laying on your side and doing crunches. (these are great for sheding the love handles). If you have a pull up bar (like at a park or something) you can do “hanging knee raises” by hanging from the bar an lifting your knees to your abs. If you can’t do hanging knee raises, try doing “leg lifts”-this is like my favorite ab exercise that really burns fat and calories! One thing that helps burn more fat than anything is by doing different exercises with little rest in between. It’s like the supersets or the value meal of a exercise program- more of what you want in less time! The little rest actually enables your body to release a growth hormone which burns fat and build/ tones up your muscles. You can do this, it works like a beauty for me every year: 30-40 regular crunches, move straight to 30-40 side crunches, 10-20 second rest and then 20-30 jackknife crunches, 20-30 reverse crunches and then do do 20 hip thrusts (google if needed), rest 10-20 seconds after that and finish it off 20 hanging knee raises (or leg lifts). Rest for 4-5 minutes and do cycle over again 2 more times. Do this workout 3-4 times a week and you could have a beach ready body in 6-8 weeks! You can add your own exercises into this routine but just stay with the principle.

B)You will do this Mon, Wed, Fri. Lay something on ground like a beach towel or something (mat) right on the foot of your bed. On your bed, you will start off with 20 knee ups (google this). After that, get on the floor immediately and do 20 leg raises. Take a 15 second rest. Now do 20 reverse crunches, 20 leg on the bed crunches and 20 hip thrusts (google these if needed). Rest 15 seconds again after those. Now do 20 cross crunches (10 each side), 20 reach and touch touches (10 each side), and finish it off with 20 cross leg reverse crunches (10 each side).-[Google or youtube any of these exercises for pictures or videos as needed]. Now take a 3-4 min break and do this cycle again 2 more times.
Now after this cycle, you will lay flat on the mat on your back. Get two dumbbells (8lb-15lbs each arm-depending on your strength level). Raise them straight up over. Now bend your elbows bringing the weights right over your forehead at 90 degrees. Then straighten them back out. You will have done a dumbbell tricep extension. Now After doing that, while holding the weights up over your head, lift your torso up of the ground (shoulders off the ground) while at the same time lifting each leg up one at a time doing a “scissors movement” and back down. Repeat this whole entire movement 15-20 times and do 3 sets of these with 10 second rests in between each set. That’s pretty much it. As for Tues, Thurs, Sat, you can do cardio which is running or cycling.

As with any exercise, you will want to check your progress and ensure you increase repetitions or weight (reps in this case as you will most likely be using body weight only). Also remember to take breaks every so often (possibly every other day or every couple of days) and switch things up so it doesn’t become too boring.

Best of luck and most importantly stay with it. Progress could be slow or it could be fast depending on your body type.Also-make sure to drink plenty of water (STAY HYDRATED!!!- can’t stress that enough to my people), stay away from too many carbs, sugars, and sodium. Avoid saturated and Trans fat with a passion and try burn more calories than you consume. I know you aren’t fat but it will help you get rid of the unwanted belly fat faster. I’m sure if you stick to it, it will yield results! :-)

Girls get a four pack, guys get a six pack. It’s your physiology. The number one thing you need to do is lose fat by doing cardio and dieting. It doesn’t much matter what you do as long as you get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes at least 40 days a week. Cut out all the sugar from your diet. This alone will cause you to lose at least 5 pounds (though you may get headaches in the afternoon for a few weeks). Your goal is to lose enough fat from your midsection that you can pinch your belly and there is less than an inch between your finger and thumb. That’s a quick was to measure for ideal body fat composition. DO NOT do any ab exercises until you have lost the fat. This will cause you to build your ab muscles under the fat, which makes you look even thicker in the middle. Just be patient and stick to your diet and cardio.

After you’ve reached your ideal goal, the best thing to do is high-rep toning of the abs. Start with leg lifts to tone your lower abs. Lie flat on your back and pull your knees up to your chest, then stretch them out straight again. Do this as many times as you can without letting your legs touch the floor. For your upper abs, you want to do standard sit-up. Don’t pull your head with your hands (you can injure your neck) and keep your feet on the floor. Don’t lie all the way back down between sit-ups. The idea is that your shoulders never touch the floor. Do cross-body sit-ups to tone your obliques… The sides of your waist. These are the same as a regular sit-up, except you want to touch your left elbow to your right knee and vice-versa (with your hands behind your head). There is no set in stone number of reps for these exercises. Just do them until you’re too tired to do them anymore. The more you work out, the more reps you’ll be able to do. When doing the cross-body’s you want to make sure you do the same number on each side (alternating works best). Crunches can seriously injure you back, so avoid those altogether. You will start to see results pretty quickly if you have reached your ideal body fat composition prior to toning.

An excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a
stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture, for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you will damage your back and spine!
Slowly move the upper part of your body back, until it’s parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times.
Every week add to the number of repetitions.
You will see the results in a week, guaranteed! You will see or feel under the fat – if you have any – six pack and muscles. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these crunches – I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.
